This is part 7 of our 7 part series on small investments that will change your life forever. (you need for a healthier and happier life) Before you start with today’s article, make sure to read part 1 here, part 2 here, part 3 here, part 4 here. and part 5 here and part 6 here.
In our final installment, we will talk about investing in leisure, applying lifestyle changes and last but not least, investing in cryptocurrencies!
Table of Contents
8. Invest in your personal leisure time
When we talk about personal leisure time, it is not just about taking a vacation. I have talked about that in a previous installment. This section is about investing time and money into leisure. Leisure includes everything we do for fun in our personal time, our hobbies, our vacations, spending time with loved ones (friends, family, partner etc.) and anything that makes our heart shine without compromising our spiritual self (i.e. without indulging in hedonism and consumerism).
The need for leisure time
We live in a society of workaholics where success equals spending as much time as possible at the office or working. Of course people are entitled to their own opinion, so if you think that working 55 hours per day and consider that to be a leisure activity (because you make a lot of money), by all means keep doing it.
However, when you reach the point of burnout due to stress (remember what we said earlier about Eustress?) or you end up having ‘the talk’ with your doctor about something in your body that should not be there, then you might wish you had thought of what I am talking about in this chapter.
I personally love working on my projects. I have a personal record of working 48 hours straight with a 30 minute nap in between (when I was in my early thirties). We must not ignore the fact that as we grow older (especially for people after their mid-30s), our ability to perform lessens day by day.
And this will have an effect on the other parts of our lives, be it social, personal and of course the most intimate part of it, which involves sexual activities.
I also find it very cynical how a lot of people choose to bust their back making money, money that will be used to pay the doctors when they are diagnosed with something because of their hard work.
Can’t we have some balance here? Don’t you think it would be better if you actually work hard, make money and then spend that money by doing something for yourself? (i.e. NOT work-related)
That’s where leisure comes in. You work hard, you make money, take some time off and spend some of it. That is a good balance.
Some people may think that spending time and money on leisure is a waste. I beg to differ. It is an investment for your own personal health. Other than the fun part, it will give your brain a break from work and you might even have a couple of ideas after you come back from your time off and make even more money!
Most successful people on the planet understand this subtle difference between leisure and work. They ALWAYS take the time celebrate their wins and always put some money on the side to take a cruise or go somewhere exotic with their friends or family or both!
I am not a materialistic person, but unfortunately, we do live in a materialistic society. You must not only learn to play by the rules but you must also take whatever you can and make it work for you. If I had a choice between spending a million dollars on buying cars and houses and lifeless crap and spending that money on having fun, I would go for the latter. In the end, I may not have a shiny castle or carriage to show off but I would keep a million treasures in my heart and soul. Those valuable treasures called memories.
9. Invest in Lifestyle Optimization
In the previous parts, we talked about nutrition, general knowledge, human rights, supplements, herbs, lowering stress and leisure. But it all all comes down to lifestyle optimization. In order to be able to optimize your lifestyle, you must understand and apply what we talked about in all the previous sections. If you do things right, you will basically learn what you are, what you can do and what you want and then go for it. You will be able to take control of your life and live your dreams.
Lifestyle optimization is about making all those small but important changes in your life. Since this is another huge subject that would probably end up being a small book, I will just list and summarize all the things you should ideally be focusing on in order to live a happy and fulfilling life:
- Optimize your nutrition,
- Optimize your sleep,
- Exercise right,
- Minimize stress,
- Manage energy levels properly,
- Learn, learn, learn!
- Apply, apply, apply!
- Save money and make wise financial decisions,
- Select your friends wisely,
- Select your environment wisely,
- Find a job you really love and be great at it,
- Help others and give back to the community,
- Invest in your leisure and have fun,
- Plan your life and live it the way you’ve always dreamed of.
You don’t need to do all of this at the same time. But making small steps towards each direction will eventually help you get to the place you always wanted to be. Of course, I have written and will continue to write articles on all of these subjects which can you can read on this website.
10. Invest in cryptocurrency!
So an investment series wouldn’t complete without some actual investing right? Unfortunately, we still live in an organized society where we are expected to buy things by trading objects of value also known as money.
In the last couple of years, cryptocurrency has slowly been creeping into our lives and for a good reason. The rise in technology and brilliance of decentralized blockchains is now allowing us to use this new ‘money’ that is known as cryptocurrency.
Without going into a lot of detail about this, these are what you need to know about crypto in a nutshell:
- Bitcoin was the brain child of Satoshi, a developer visionary who saw a future where wealth is distributed equally to everyone. This was the first type of cryptocurrency ever invented.
- Originally used on the dark web for transactions (legal or otherwise), cryptocurrency has found its way into our lives. You can buy, sell, trade cryptocurrency on sites such as coinbase, binance and crypto.com to say the least. You can also buy goods online with cryptocurrency and even Paypal now offers cryptoservices to each users.
- One of the many benefits proclaimed from its use is the fact that you become your own bank. That’s right. You don’t need to ask permission on how or when to use your cryptocurrency.
- There is a huge ROI (return on investment) with cryptocurrency. As an example, over the timeline of about a decade, Bitcoin went from a few cents to being worth about 30.000$ each! So if you had bought a dollar’s worth of bitcoin ten years ago, now you’d own about 3 million dollars worth of bitcoin!
- There are many different types of cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin etc. Then we have alt coins and tokens and even untraceable cryptocurrencies. Each one is based on its own unique technology and community and is dedicated to a purpose.
- Despite what some people might argue, local laws are still in full effect which still means that you need to explain where you got your money from (exchanges or otherwise) and you still need to pay taxes for it.
- “Not your keys, not your crypto”. What this means is that, if you don’t own the keys to your crypto, then you don’t own crypto. E.g. If you buy bitcoin and decide to store it on an online exchange and that exchange gets hacked, then your bitcoin goes bye-bye. Of course, if you store your bitcoin on an offline wallet and you lose your keys, then you just lost your wallet and your crypto. And no, you cannot recover lost keys.
Of course, different people have different ideas about how cryptocurrency should be used, owned and taxed but this is not the point of this post. My suggestion to anyone reading this post would be to look into cryptocurrency as it is a worthy investment for the future.
This concludes our 7 part series. I hope you have learned about the importance of all these small investments and how they can truly impact your life for the better. I am sure that taking a small step in each direction will get you to a place where you will be truly able to enjoy your life and be strong, healthy and free.
