Small investments that will change your life forever (pt1)

Small investments that will change your life forever! #investments #nutritionWe live in a time and place where money rules everything. The most important aspect of our modern life has been reduced to money.

Our entire lives are designed towards obtaining money. And rightfully so, because unfortunately, money is the driving force for life these days. Without it, we cannot get a house, food and, in essence, live. There are ways around that but that is not the scope of this article.

Making more money is also not the sole purpose of this article series. In fact, these articles are designed to teach you how to get more out of your existence by investing in the right areas of your life. By doing the right investments, you will be rewarded with 3 amazing benefits: happier time, happier life and you will make more money!

Most people tend to ignore that there are other investments that we need to make in order to sustain and improve our life on this planet. In this series of articles, I will talk about small investments that will change your life forever in a healthier and happier way while also minimizing stress.

Table of Contents

1. Invest in Nutrition

If you have been following this blog for a while, you know that I believe that a balanced nutrition is one of the 5 pillars of optimal health so it’s only fair to start with that. Having a solid nutritional plan is of the utmost importance for not only living your life but to also be able to handle all the good or bad situations that might occur.

Most, if not all, of the other investments that I will describe later tend to depend on this one. You must eat well, enough and healthy. In order to do that, you should pay attention that your nutrition establishes the following things:

a) Your nutrition should sustain your health

We eat to survive. Food gives us the right nutrients to keep us alive, to grow, live and enjoy our life. If our nutrition is bad, these will no longer happen once we hit your “garbage saturation point”.

When you eat crap (even if your metabolism is great and you may have what appears to be a health body), there comes a time when your health calls it quits and then everything goes downhill to the land of disease, misery and pain. Do not underestimate your nutrition.

What to invest in:

Invest into getting top quality foods and nutrients. Go organic if you can. If not, focus on the best foods that are right for your situation. This is something I will talk about in the next investment.

b) Your nutrition should help you grow!

Growing can have a few different meanings. It can be recovering from a disease or it can be muscle growth for those that wish for it (and everyone should). It can also mean mental support and protection from stress.

Protection from stress is perhaps one of the biggest benefits of a healthy nutrition.

It can also help your mood which means:

c) Proper nutrition Leads to a happier life

If you eat the right foods that are right for you, you will have a more fulfilling life not just in terms of health but by properly supporting your physical and mental body.

As a result of all the 3 factors above, you will be able to grow, be HAPPIER and less stressed. You will have the right amount of energy to get things done, to survive through good and bad situations, to live things you always wanted.

But in order to have the right nutrition, we need to have the right nutritional knowledge.

This should be your next investment.

2. Invest in Nutritional Knowledge

In order to have a proper nutrition, we need to educate ourselves in matters of nutrition. You could hire a nutritionist and while most of them can be excellent at guiding clients, you must be careful of dealing with quacks. I have met quite a few people who had the misfortune of dealing with ‘experts’ who failed to understand nutritional customization.

Nutritional customization becomes even more important if you have health issues. In these situations, a proper nutritionist can make a true difference if he or she knows how to properly address them.

What to invest in:

But having to depend on a nutritionist should either be the beginning of your journey or a last resort. Either way, you should invest in learning everything you can about nutrition. You can get a lot of great resources on the net but knowing how to choose the right from wrong information can be tricky.

To get the best nutritional information you could do the following things:

A. Get a nutritionist and check with your doctor

Work together with a nutritionist and a doctor in order to get a proper head start. Their programs will give you a bit of indication even if they are not the best. You can still benefit from them by taking the first step in education by following their advice.

b. Read books

There are quite a few books that talk about nutrition. Try not to be trapped under a specific type of nutrition by following a diet and becoming a diet fanatic. This is not the time for that.

You must first learn how your body works with different types of food, how different foods can do different things, how much food you need and when. Focus on that at this stage.

c. Learn about herbs and supplements

I am a big fan of using supplements and herbs to enhance our nutrition and health. I have written extensively on the matter and I have a dozen of articles on this. Herbs and supplements are worth the investment as they can give back a lot in terms of radiant health and protection from disease.

Make sure you take the time to learn and invest in the use of supplements and herbs.

d. Explore and experiment

After learning for a good bit (6-12 months), it’s time for you to start exploring. This is when you can actually start following a diet or a nutritional plan of your own. I do not suggest, picking up any book in the earlier stages and just jumping on the diet train for a couple of reasons:

  • If the diet is crap or is still legit but doesn’t work for you, you will be disappointed and quit.
  • If you don’t know enough about nutrition in the first place, then dieting will overwhelm you, disappoint you and you will quit.

Stick with the basics and explore portioning, nutrient rotation and periodization.

e. Apply what you have learned

Even if you have stopped learning about nutrition, you can always apply the things you have learned. See what works for you and then add it to the safe list. Do the same with things that did not work and add them to a no-no list.

After a couple of years and if you find yourself stuck, go back to this list and try to re-evaluate what did not work. Sometimes you will be amazed at how tweaking things that didn’t work can actually make them work.

f. Take a break but do not quit

Learning and experimenting with nutrition should be your part time hobby. It is a great investment for your health and life. There is nothing wrong with taking a long break as long as you understand what you have learned and that you do not quit.

It should be a long-term commitment in order for this investment to give you back the goods.

That is part 1 of my 5 part series on investments for health. Stay tuned for part 2.
