How to handle your stress through energy balance

How to handle stress through energy balance. #Stressmanagement #energybalanceIn this article I will show you how to handle your stress through energy balance and how exactly to achieve balance in your life.

Energy is everything. We are surrounded by energy and we are made of energy. Every action we take is related to either the energy of others or our own.

Remember that what you put in, must equal to what you put out. You cannot be putting out more than what you put in, just like a remote control that cannot work on empty batteries.

Therefore you must recharge your batteries or make sure you preserve the energy they currently have so that the ‘remote’ can continue being fully functional.

In order to properly manage and balance your energy, you need to first establish a baseline of your activities and the energy spent on them.

Here’s what you can do:

Table of Contents

1) Keep a detailed diary

Take this diary everywhere you go and note everything you do or feel in it.

Split it into sections e.g. work, gym, home, life.

During the day, note everything that went right and everything that went wrong.

You can either take notes, or write down your thoughts.

Write down how many hours you worked, how many hours it took you to go to work, if there was traffic, hours you worked out, hours you spent with your friends, family or loved ones.

Did something good or bad happen on that day? When? How did it make you feel?

Note that down!

Keep it organized as you should be able to go back and read it.

2) Check your diary after 2 weeks

Stick with step 1 for a minimum of 2 weeks. Once 2 weeks have passed, take some time over the weekend (or anytime you are relaxed and can think straight) to assess what exactly happened during that time.

3) Find the ideal

The goal here, is to find that one awesome day in order to establish your baseline.

First task is to locate which day had you feeling great. Let me put it this way: if you could relive a day over and over again, out of those 14 days, which one would you choose?

For example, let’s say that Wednesday was a good day.

  • What did you do on that day? Working day, had a workout and went out.
  • Was there traffic on the road on that day? No.
  • How many hours did you work at the office? 9. Cool, make a note.
  • How much time did you work out for? 45 minutes.
  • Did you eat healthy? Yes.
  • How was sex? Amazing.

So ideally you should try to live every day of your life like that Wednesday.

Of course we know that this is not always possible BUT balancing our energy is.

4) Learn from this day

Now it is time for you to learn whatever you can from this day (baseline) and adjust your other days accordingly.

If your day starts with you being stuck in traffic, this should give you an indication that you should start conserving energy already.

If you work for 12 hours at the office, then you should be prepared that your work out will (or should) be less (to protect your immune system and hormones).

When you get to the gym, do not set PRs on that day. Focus on doing simple compound exercises, basic sets and reps. If you feel tired, remove a couple of sets (go from 5 down to 2). In this way, you will still get a good workout and not drain your system.

If you do all of the above, at the end of the day you will feel much better than the previous days where you worked 12 hours at the office and worked out for an hour at the gym (where you possibly got injured for some ‘strange’ reason).

Understand that some days are going to suck. This is normal and most of the time we cannot do anything about it. But it is our duty to be on our toes and protect the rest of the day from turning into, well, shit.

Keep calm no matter what

If you give in to anger and despair, the rest of the day will suck. But just by knowing that there is a way to turn things around and making them work is half the battle.

Stay cool, stay balanced!

Stay cool, stay balanced and don’t stare!

The other half is taking the time to do some groundwork, establish the baselines in different areas of your life and learning to manage one over the other. And don’t forget that you must watch your energy levels and try to conserve as much as possible.

Closing Thoughts

As human beings we have a limited supply of energy. When we are young, that supply seems limitless. When we are not children anymore, we understand the impact and the true limitations of low energy levels. Using the simple method mentioned here and it will allow you to better manage yourself as you go through the best and the worst times of your life and still come out feeling great and happy.

This is what energy balance is all about.
