Rule no1: Understand The Power of Herbs

First of all, always remember that herbs are just as powerful as pharmaceuticals. A lot of people tend to underestimate their power and end up with health problems by abusing their use. When you use an herb, you need to understand and respect its power and not abuse or overuse it.

Another reason why their power is underestimated is because, in some cases, they are using a lower dose or using herbal supplements that are full of fillers and not enough of the actual herb. Both of these factors can give the wrong impression about the true potential of a herb.

Rule no2: Cycle your herbs

Herbs tend to lose their potency and part of their beneficial effects when used for long periods of time. This is because they work more naturally with the body and can lead to homeostasis, a state where the body is accustomed to the herb’s power and does not react to it. For this reason, all herbs need to be cycled after specific periods of time. You will need the help of an expert to find what is appropriate for each herb (and your condition).

Rule no3: Take the right dose at the right time

A lot of people today, tend to dismiss the use of herbs for medicinal purposes since they do not act as fast as chemicals. Some herbs take up to a couple of months before they show results and in this day and age of impatience, this can be a problem.

Also, the dose might be inappropriate for the person who is using it. Dose is sometimes dependent on the person’s organic constitution, the condition of the patient (physical and sometimes psychological) as well as body type and even body weight.

Rule no4: Avoid fake herbal supplements

The supplement industry has understood the power of herbs and has jumped on the money train. This has its pros and cons. The obvious pro is bigger availability of herbs in the market. The con is that there are a lot of scam artists out there who sell dirt for gold. Always buy your herbs from reputable sellers in order to stay safe and to avoid ineffective herbal compounds.

Rule no5:  Avoid mindlessly mixing herbs

Certain herbal combinations should be avoided as different herbs contain different compounds that may not always work together. Certain combinations can cause dangerous health implications and in some cases, death. This is why you need advice from an expert and you should not try to treat yourself on your own.

Rule no6: Know your allergies

Last but not least, you must understand that not all herbs are appropriate for everyone. Different people react in different ways to different ways due to their personal constitution, allergies or even medical conditions.

Some of these medical conditions may not be obvious and this is why it is ALWAYS important to check with your doctor before using any kind of herb. A good way to protect yourself is to always do a blood test and discuss your intentions of taking herbs with your medical professional.

Supplements can be good for you

Taking supplements is not as evil as some make it out to be.

So there you have it. Follow these 6 rules when using herbs and you will be able to benefit from their power in a safe and effective way. I will be posting a series of articles about my favorite herbs and how they have changed my life.
